FAQ
Do Nourish Butter +/or Z+ Rebuilder contain essential oils?
DermaQuell products do not contain essential oils. The herbal ingredients in DermaQuell products are traditionally prepared herbal extracts, such as hydrosols (which are a natural byproduct of the steam distillation process), water infusions (which is like an herbal tea), and herbs infused into carrier oils. Carrier oils are emollient lipid oils, cold-pressed from the nuts, seeds, or pits of plants that contain fatty acids and non-volatile antioxidants and other oil soluble phytonutrients.
Are the alcohol ingredients in Nourish Butter +/or Z+ Rebuilder drying?
Cetyl alcohol is a plant-derived fatty alcohol that is not drying to the skin. The Benzyl Alcohol listed is part of the product’s non-toxic preservation system, and is in the product at less than 1% total concentration. While this alcohol can be drying when used in larger amounts, the amount in this product is not enough to be drying to the skin.
Does Nourish Butter +/or Z+ Rebuilder have a scent?
There is no fragrance added to Nourish Butter but the hemp oil does give it a bit of a grassy smell. Z+ Rebuilder has no added fragrance, but a light herbal scent from the black seed oil.
Are Nourish Butter +/or Z+ Rebuilder gluten-free?
There are no gluten ingredients included in the formulas but it’s not tested to confirm no gluten. As a reminder, gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin.
Why does Nourish Butter appear to be melted in the jar?
Depending on seasonality of warmer temperatures, where you’re located, or shipping in the heat, it’s possible that since Nourish Butter is a salve-like product, it may appear melted in the jar. If your package has been sitting in the heat or the jar feels warm to the touch when it arrives, we recommend placing the jar in a refrigerator for 30 minutes to reincorporate the product before opening.
What is the source of the tocopherols in Nourish Butter + Z+ Rebuilder?
The tocopherols in Nourish Butter + Z+ Rebuilder are sunflower-derived.
What is Allantoin?
The Allantoin used in our products is extracted from comfrey root + is known for its soothing, anti-irritant properties. It is supportive of sensitive skin as well as other inflammatory skin concerns like eczema, acne, scars + wound healing. It is generally recognized as safe for humans. Is it okay to use DermaQuell skincare products on infected skin?
DermaQuell skincare products are not meant to be used in lieu of medication and should not be put on an active skin infection. These skincare products could make infected skin feel worse and require appropriate treatment before using them. Please consult with your doctor to get the appropriate medication.
Are DermaQuell products Non-GMO?
We do our best to use Non-GMO sourced ingredients in Quell skincare as much as possible. However, some ingredients are impossible to be verified (such as the beeswax we use though it is sourced in the US) while other ingredients cannot be confirmed as Non-GMO due to complexity within the supply chain (ie. certain base oils and hydrosols used in certain ingredients). In our efforts to be transparent, this difficulty in verification prevents us from claiming that all ingredients are Non-GMO.
Are DermaQuell products vegan or vegetarian?
Due to the presence of beeswax and silk amino acids in DermaQuell products, none of the skin creams are considered vegan. Since beeswax comes from bees and silk amino acids are derived from silk that comes from silkworms, it's ultimately up to you if you are comfortable using these nourishing ingredients.
Are DermaQuell products organic?
Quell skincare products use organic ingredients whenever possible, but some ingredients are so obscure that they are difficult to find certified organic. And some ingredients aren't able to BE certified organic at all — like the mineral Zinc, for example (it's not a plant). That said, Quell skincare products use all-natural, botanical ingredients whenever possible. The only synthetic ingredient is TriStat Eco preservative which is nature-identical and ensures product safety, stability, shelf life without requiring refrigeration, and enhances the product’s spreadability and consistency for a lovely customer experience.
